WELLINGTON NORTH ELECTION
Sir,—As it is apparent that a doubt still exists about the association's attitude regarding politics, more especially in connection with the coining contest for the Wellington North seat. I desire to state once again that our organisation is strictly non-political. It will bo readily conceded, however, that each member of the association as a citizen lias a perfect right to take what individual political action he chooses, and I have no doubt that, all the candidates for the seat will havo returned soldiers assisting them in the campaign. Even at this early stage of the contest some misunderstanding has arisen owing to the fact that returned soldiers, wearing the association's badge of membership, are taking an active interest, but it should be clearly understood that any action taken by individual returned men is neither under the direction of, nor is in any way connected with, this association.—l ain, etc., JAS. D. HARPER, Chairman, Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association. February 8.
We have received a letter bearing the signatures of a number of the members of the Returned Soldiers' Association, supporting the above communication, and stating further that the signatories can never forget that Mr. Luke was instrumental in opposing their request for free rides on the city tramways. Mr. Luke, they state, has not their support.
