EFFICIENCY BOARD PREPARING A REPORT WELLINGTON'S INADEQUATE ACCOMMODATION At last night's meeting of the Wellington Technical Education Board a letter was read from the chairman of the National Efficiency Board stating that after visiting the Wellington Technical School the mombers of his board had adopted the following resolution :— "That this board, having visited tho various departments of work in connection with the Wellington Technical School, congratulates the directors on the importance of the subjects dealt with by the institution. The National Efficiency Board has now' ■under consideration the wholo question of the training necessary to promote national efficiency and industry, and will a£ as oarly a date as possible present to tho Government a comprehensive report dealing with: "(a) As to whether the primary system of education could be in any way altered to ensure a better preparation for boys and girls in respect of trade, occupation, or industry which they aro likely to follow. ■ "(b) To make recommendations with a view to removing the evil which exists in the community in respect to young peoplo, mainly caused by the interregnum ■which takes place between the time that the; boy or girl leaves school, especially the boy, and the date on which they commence tli9 work which is to be their occupation in life. "(o) To suggest ways and means by which a more practical and more efficient use can be made of the educational system_ as a means of preparation by scientific training to render the boy or girl a more effective unit in the production of national wealth. "(d) To co-ordinate the workshop with the technical school with profit to the student, the employer, and tho State." When this report has been prepared it. will certainly be the duty of the National Efficiency Board to point out to the Government that suitable accommodation and equipment must be provided for technical institutions throughout the Dominion.

The chairman of the Technical Education Board (Mr. G. Frost) said the members of tlie National Efficiency Board had made a full inspection of the school, and had expressed warm approval of what they had seen. They worn, emphasising the "necessity for adequate provision being made by tho Government for technical education, and' had expressed their disapproval of the lack of proper accommodation at the Wellington Technical School. It was mentioned at the meeting that a deputation representing the board would interview the Prime Minister and -other Ministers during next week, to urge again the imperative need for the provision of a site for a new technical school for Wellington.
