Y.M.C.A.'S NEW CAMPAIGN

MAYOR CONVENES A MEETING. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) has convened a meeting for 4 o'clock to-mor-row afternoon for the purpose, of launching a schema 011 behalf of the Y.M.C.A. funds for war work. It is now some time since . the Y.M.C.A. made a direct appeal to the general public, and the need for funds to assist their work of mercy at the front and wherever our boys may be located remains as urgent as ever. Our men are now enduring the rigours of the European winter in the trenches of Flanders and France, an 3 are being as well cared for- in regard to comforts as is possible under tho • circumstances, but tho end is not yet, and provisionals to be made for the strenuous times ahead. It is the desire of the Y.M.C.A. to persist in tho good work they aro carrying out, more actively, it anything, than in the past. The Mayor'hopes that as many as possible will make it convenient to attend at the Concert Chamber to-mor-row (Thursday) afternoon. Among tho speakers who will address the meeting will be Brigadier-General Sir Robert Anderson, of Sydney ; Mr. George Wilson and Mr. Charles Rhodes, who took ail active Dart 011 the Citizens' Committee which recently earned through a very successful I.iM.UA. campaign in Auckland, when nearly £50,000 was raised in a few days.
