» OOR-PORATION DRIVERS' CLAIMS. Tlip claims of the City Corporation drivers wero-before tho Conciliation' Couucil yesterday, at the instance of the Wellington Drivers' Union, which applied, to have the City Council made j parties to the drivers' award already in existence, and' made the following claims:—A 51-hours' week for all drivers except'tho night broom men, whose hours of work shall be 48j these hours to include the time occupied in attending to horses and cleaning, harness. Wages: General drivers, £3 ss. per week; scavenging cart drivers, £3 Bs. per week; household refuse cart drivers, £3 12s. per week; drivers of two horses to receive ss. per week extra. Drivers engaged on Sunday - morning street cleaning to bo.allowed 8 hours' ordinary time for such work. Overtime to bo paid at tho rate of time and a half; the council to provide all drivers with oilskin coats, preference of employment to be given to members of the union. There was. also a. claim that double time shall be paid on Sundays, Christmas Day. and Good Friday, and time and a half on other holidays. Mr. W. Newton, Conciliation Commissioner, presided. The assessors for the corporation were Messrs. AY. H. Morton, A. J. Paterson, and J. JKerslake, and for tlie union Messrs. A. Parlane, G. Symington, and J. Smith. The parties Tenched a complete agreement. The hours of work were , agreed to. The wages were fixed as follow: General drivers, £3 per week; scavenging cart drivers, £3 2s. Id.; nignt broom drivers, £3 45.; household refuse cart drivers, £3 6s. 4d.; drivers of two horses to - receive 6s. per,week extra and 4 hours a week additional stable work attending to the extra horse. Overtime: General drivers, Is.- 6d. per hour; for slurry and household refuse work, Is; 9d. per hour; for work done on Sundays, Christmas Day, and Good Friday, 2s. 6d. per hour, with a miuimum as for two hours; foT -work done on other holidays, time and a half, with a minimum as for two hours to be added to the weekly wages. .The claim regarding street cleaning was agreed to. Holidays: General drivers;to get New Year's Day, Anniversary Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, King's Birthday, Labour Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day, and half-holiday on St. George's Day, Municipal Election Day, Dominion Day, Parliamentary Section Day, and St. Patrick's Day. Scavenging cart drivers and household' refuse cart drivers to have Now Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday,, Labour Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day, and in addition to he granted nine full days in each year on full pay. Preference of employment was conceded to members of the union. The drivers were also granted war bonus of 4s. per week in addition to the wages fixed.
