The Hon. A. M. Myers returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday afternoon. Mr. H. H. Beetham, of the Wairarapa, successfully underwent an operation at Brancepeth yesterday morning. His friends will be relieved on learning that he is making satisfactory progress. Dr. J. P. S. Jamiesoii, of Nelson, and Professor Dieiinau, have been appointed examiners in medical jurisprudence incimncction with the New Zealand University examinations. Mr. AV. Pryor, general secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, left for Auckland yesterday on federation business. Sergeant G. Henneker, killed in action on January 13, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henneker, of Taranaki Street, and a long-standing member or the Central Mission Silver Hand. Ho first enlisted with the Forces to go to Samoa, and on his return was invalided and underwent an operation in the Wellington Hospital. After recovery he re-enlisted with the Twenty-sixth Reinforcements. He was also an enthusiastic member of the Loyal Orange Institution, and an officer of L.0.L., No. 43. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, when tho various bodies to which' he belonged will pay a tribute to his memory. Mr. W. Berry, of the staff of Messrs. Wallace and Gibvon, and a well-known and popular member of the Seawun ■ Bowling Club, has been appointed manager of the business of M'Gruar and Co., in Wcstport. Mr. and Mrs. Berry have been cordially farewelled by their Seatoun friends. News came to hand by last mail of the death of Mr. John Holmes, a gentleman highly esteemed by a large number of friends in the Gisbornc district. He was for a time manager of Kiore Station, but retired on account of illhealth. He subsequently went hack to England, and remained there some time. Ho returned to Gi:-borne five or six years ago, but his health breaking down again he went Home. He was very popular in bowling circles. The compositors of tho Government Printing Office gathered round the "stone" last evening to bid farewell to one of their number, Mr. M. J. Ogilvie, who has been a- member of the staff for tin; past seventeen years. The Government Printer, in making the presentation of a trarelling-bag on behalf of those assembled, referred in complimentary terms to the loyal and competent service rendered by tlu , recipient during his-many years in the establishment. Mr. Ogilvie intends to take up his residenco in Auckland. On Tuesday afternoon the etaffs of the Customs, shipping, and railway interests in Christchurch bade farewell to Mr. Montague Gillmore, who has been transferred to Wellington. Mr. J. P. Matheson, goods agent, who presided, said that the appreciative references to Mr. Gillmore as a railway,-Red Cross, Firo Brigade, and Patriotic Society worker were so frequent as to make comment oiv his general usefulness superfluous. Mr. William Charles Baigent has been appointed a member of the Nelson Land Board. • Mr. William Kerr, S.M., has been appointed chairman of, the Licensing Committee for the districts of Pahiatua awl Wairarapa. Mr. A. IT. Mackay has been appointed Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages of Maoris, and Vaccination Inspector for the district of Wellington. Mr. E. G. F. Zohrab, of Wellington, is expected to return this morning from Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. 11. S. Robinson, of Ngaturi. were accorded a valedictory function at Pahiatiu on Monday afternoon, on the eve of their leaving the district.
