Tho Gisborno Harbour Board have notified the Marine Department that- on or about February 8 the red dashing light buoy marking Tc Moana Rock, in the Gisborne roadstead, will be removed for repairs, and will be replaced by a black ifiliightea buoy. Tho black can buoy marking flikutu Rock, Tokomaru Bay, which lately broke adrift, ha 6 now been replaced black cone buoy. KARU WITH TIMBER. Messrs. Reese Bros.' Karu left Greymouth yesterday inorniug for Wellington, where she is dno to-morrow morniug. The vessel has a full load of timber, of which I 5!),O0Oft. is for Hiraniar, and the balance ! for Wellington. 'LILLA TO REPLACE OPOURI; ' The Union Company's iron huik Lilla, willed has been used at Wellington for some time v-ist an a coal hulk, will be . t&vced to Lyttelton in the course of a fort- I night. Tho alterations to the vessel will i take about another ten days. Tho Lilla | has been bought by Messrs. Reuse Bros>, i of Ohristchurch, who intend to fit h.;r with I the engine, boilers, winches, and a,U the I other iron gear salvaged from the wreck- I ed steamer Opouri. The Lilla is a much larger vessel than the Opouri, there being a difference of about SOii. in length and Bft. in beam. .The engines'will be placed aft, giving a clear hold forward, with a capacity of 400,000 ft. of timber. It is csti- ! mated: that the vessel's daught, when completed, will be 17ft. fore and aft. Tho Koinata is to leave Westport this afturnoou witu coal for Wellington. The iron hulk Darttord, which is being converted iuto a sailiug trader again, was docked on Monday morning at Port Chalmers. A good deal of alteration is already apparent on deck, chielly at the forecastle head aud at the poop. The Wootton is due at Wellington on Sunday afternoon from Lyttelton, and on Monday will sail taking cargo for Tarakolie, where she will load sheep for Lyttelton. Thero seems to be an increasing difficulty in scouring seamen for sailing craft, says the Ohristchurch "Press." The schooner Lily, having discharged a cargo of timber, which she curried to Lyttelton three weeks ago last Saturday from Kaiparn, has been laid up indefinitely, being short of throe seamen and a cook, ft is understood that seamen demand a much higher rate of pay to engage in sailers than in coastal steamers. The Kahu will probably go on the slip on Monday for cleaning and painting.
