TOBACCO RATIONS

SOMETHING FOR SMOKERS TO EXPECT. Smokers may expect to bo called upon shortly to ration themselves (says th.e "Daily Mail"). A scheme is under consideration for restricting the manufacture of tobacco. For some time very little tobacco has been coming into the country. Last March tho total in bond was 112,301.i0n5. The present consumption is about 80,000 tons a year. There is n.o\v less than, a year's supply in bond, and shipping facilities do not permit of more being imported. Consequently, it is almost certain that the quantities available to tho public will be reduced. A statement will be made as to tho amount of tobacco of all kinds with which every person: should be content each week, and the public will be asked to adopt voluntary, rations.
