ITALIANS TAKE THE OFFENSIVE
ENEMY'S LINE BROKEN AT SEVERAL POINTS 1500 PRISONERS CAPTURED (Rec. January 30, 8.15 p.m.) London, January 29. An Italian official report states: "We stormed yesterday a height east of the Asiago basin and broke through the enemy's positions at several points, overcoming a stubborn defence, and subsequently resisting violent counteroffensives, taking 1500 prisoners. Our artillery co-operated with the Allies in dispersing reinforcement's in tho Nos Campomulo Valley. Our aircraft were everywhere superior, and brought down twelve machines."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter. GERMAN OFFICIAL REPORT. (Rec. January 30, 8.15 p.m.) London, January 29. A German official report states: "Tho Italians attacked between Asiago and the Brenta. The Italian attack was broken at Monte Sisemol, and a counter-attack regained Mount Divalbella, on which the enemy had secured a foothold. We threw back the enemy on the Col del Rosso and between Frenzela and tho Brenta. Wo dropped twenty-one tons of bombs on Castlo Franco, Treviso, and Mestre on Saturday night.
