THE THIRTY SHILLINGS SUIT

» • SOLDIERS' PROTEST. For a long timo the soldiers have been agitating about the quality of the mufti clothing served to .them on discharge' If a man wishes he may havo 30s. instead of a suit of clothes, but no sort of a suit of clothes can be bought for this sum. A letter was received by the War Relief Association yesterday from the Returned Soldiers' Association stating that this body was asking for a confereiico of representatives of the Returned Soldiers' Association, the Advisory Boards, and the Defence Department. The request of the association is that the mufti allowance be raised from £1 10s. to £5. ''From what I can make out," said tho chairman (Mr. Tripp), "the Government could givo tho men a decent suit of clothes, and savo money as well. The Government gives the men uniforms and underclothing now to the value, I understand, of £lt." Mr. Lewis: What is the idea of the Government giving a man two suits of khaki if he is not allowed to wear them? Mr. Macintosh: Absolutely useless! Tbe most ridiculous thing I ever heard of! ■ On the motion of Mr. Luke, the executive of the association decided to support the request of tho Returned Soldiers'. Association for an increase in the allowance.
