PENSIONS FOR SAILORS
SUFFERING BY WAR PERIL*,, Some time ago the Government promised to consider the claims of the sailors on Now Zealand ships running risks of death or disablement by reason that they aro voyaging partly in the Bene of danger from submarines. It was claimed on behalf of the seamen that they had as good rights'to pensions for themselves or their do]>endaiits as any soldier fighting the Germans in the battlefield, and this claim the Government has never withstood. It is understood that a scheme of pensions has been approved by Cabinet to cover the cases of men killed or injured in any mishap to a ship caused by any act of the enemy. It is understood that this will apply also to ships outside tho submarine zone, the fate of which has been uncertain.
