■ « TRACIC MOTORING ACCIDENT. CAR COLLIDES WITH A TRAIN. 'By Telograph—Press Association. Ghristchuroh, January 26. An accident occurred at the Styx railway crossing on the main north road this morning, a motor-car containing five persons colliding with tho northbound train. The driver of tho car, James Ashworth, aged 73", a farmer at Saltwater Creek, escaped with a few scratches, and -his three adult daughters all received cuts and bruises. Mrs. Ashworth, aged 74, _ received most serious injuries, her right arm being nearly torn off. She and her three daughters were taken to tho Christchurch Hospital, where the old lady died soon after her arrival. Olio daughter, May, was suffering from severe injuries to one of her logs. An operation was found to be necessary. Elizabeth, another daughter, received injuries 'to her chest, and Jane, the third daughter, suffered injuries to her arm. They are progressing favourably. DROWNED IN THE BULLER. Westpcrt, January 21. James Dick Hastie an able-bodied seaman,. single, twenty years of age, fell into the Buller River on Saturday afternoon, and was drowned. His body was recovered at 2.35 this morning. The deceased's mother resides at Cashmere, Christchurch. FATAL ACCIDENT ON EVANS BAY ROAD. A fatal accident occurred on the Evans Bay Road yesterday afternoon. A man named Harrison was driving along in a trap when the horse became unmanageable and bolted. Harrison was thrown from the trap, and sustained injuries to his head and shoulders. He iwas admitted to the Hospital at 1.15 p.m., but the injuries were so severe that the man gradually sank, and died at 3.45' p.m. The deceased, who resided at, 33 Rata Road, was married, and leaves a widow and ft large family.
