QUEENSLAND FLOODS
MACKAY WHOLLY SUBMERGED ANXIETY AS TO FATE OF BOWEN Brisbane, January 26. Further news from Mackay states that the town is wholly submerged. Dozens of lives have been lost. Three small steamers are ashore. It, is feared that the port of Bowen, 725 miles north-west of Brisbane, has shared the same fate as Mackay, as no news has been received from there since Saturday. All the towns north of Rockhampton are isolated.—Press Assn. MARLBOROUGH PRACTICALLY WIPED OUT. (Rec. January 27, 5.5 p.m.) Brisbane, January 27. No further details of the Mackay disaster are available. It is believed the township of Marlborough has been practically wiped out. —Press Assn. SHIPBUILDING OUTPUT INCREASED SEVENFOLD (R-ec. January 27, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 26. Tlio Admiralty has issued a diagram showing that the shipbuilding output of March, 1916, had increased fourfold by September, 1917, and sevenfold by December, 1917.—Au5.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter.
