THE EXPECTED BLOW IN THE WEST
BRITAIN'S MAN-POWER PROPOSALS
CRITICISM BY COLONEL REPINGTON (Rec. January 25, 8.40 p.m.) _ London, January 24. Colonel Repington, in an article in the "Morning Post," criticises tho Government's man-power proposals. He states that the Germans alone- have accumulated 165 divisions in the West, and estimates that 200 to 220 divisions •eventually -will be thrown against the Anglo-French, although the enemy may attack before the concentrations are complete, in order to forestall the arrival of the Americans. Ho expects the arrival of Austrians, of whom there are some already in Belgium. The British casualties during tho period of tho war are only a little higher than the French dead. Tho British need at least 880,000 mon, in addition to the 450,000 already in view. A hundred thousand should be withdrawn from the distant campaigns, notably Salonika. The comb-out should be increased by 320,000, and conscription, extending to Ireland, should yield 200,000.—Aus - N.Z. Cable Assn. ANTICIPATING THE GERMAN DRIVE GREAT ALUEIToFFENSIVE SUGGESTED. (Rec.
