HOPEFUL OUTLOOK IN IRELAND
GROWING BELIEF IN FINAL SETTLEMENT THE ULSTER LEADER'S ROLE London, January 23. There is a growing belief that the settlement of the Irish question is not far distant. Sir Edw;ml Carson's resignation is regarded as a hopeful sign. The "Daily News" learns in authoiitative quarters that Sir ] idward Carson will . throw. his whole influence in the direc- / tion of an immediate settlement, which will include Ulster. It is stated in the lobbies that tho Government will make , a great effort towards settlement in the next few weeks. • Sir Horace Plunkett, chairman of the Irish Convention, interviewed Mr. Lloyd Georgo and others 011 Monday, then returned and presided at tho convention at Dublin on Tuesday.
