PROMOTIONS AT THE FRONT
NEW ARMY TO SHARE HIGH APPOINTMENTS. London, January 23. The "Daily Mail" states that the authorities have decided to promoto officers in tho new army to higher commands shortly, beginning by creating a number of brigadier-generals.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (R'ec. January 24, 11.30 p.m.) London, January 23. In the House of Commons Mr. Macpherson (Under-Secretary for War) confirmed the appointment of LieutenantGeneral Sir Henry Lawrence to bo Chief of the General Staff in Franco; Colonel Q. W. Cox to be a brigadier in the Intelligence Department; Lioutenant-Gcn-eral Travors Clark to be QuartermasterGeneral. These changes were not made in consequence of the report of the Cambrai inquiry.—Reuter.
