PROVISION FOR SUSPENSION OF AWARDS

ItESOLTJTJON OF PROTEST. The following resolution, which was passed by the AYollington branch of th« Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joinors, has been forwarded to ths Eight Hon. W. I'. Masscy, Minister of Labour: —"That this meeting; of the Wollington branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and' Joinors emphatically protests against the provisions covered by the Order-in-Council published in the Now Zealand Gazetto Extraordinary of December 4, providing for tho suspension of tho Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 190S, and its amendments, and of all awards and industrial agreements, in so far as they prevent or restrict tho training or employment of discharged soldiers in certain industries, and expresses the opinion that the proposals covered by tho said -Order-in-Council are reactionary in character, and calculated—(l) To place tho discharged soldier at tho mercy of those who may be unscrupulous enough to take advantage of his position and pension. (2j To place autocratic powers in the hands of the Inspector of Factories. (3) To undormine and reduce the standard of living of the workers generally."
