WELLINGTON NORTH
Sir,- In reply to "Wellington Noi-tii," I wish to state I do uot mali.sll those supporting the Reform Party when 1 stato that intrigue and other questionable met hods are beiug used in regard to the suggestion of Mr. J. P. Luke's candidature lor Wellington North, for 1 am certain no supports: nt the lleform Party is responsible tor the letters in tho daily Press to which I take exception. Your/ coricspondtiit questions the Mayor's ability to win the seat? Well, sir, all I cau say is that, in my humble opinion, it would be a far easier task for him (should he receive the National GovernnKuit nomination) than for , either of the other names that have been mentioned; for surely a record for public service such as Mr. Luke lias is to count for something. Ido not know of any other man in the city who would have given tho time or done as well during the last three and a half nrdjciis years. Truly, Mr. Luke has boen bcalei), and so have many other of our best public men, including the present representative for Wellington North, so that is certainly not a reaBon whv he should not be a candidate on this occasion. I simply wroto you, sir, in defence of one who I thought w-is being wronged by those who would be pleased at his downfall, and who I believe would worthily represent even; our most select electorate. Ido not know who is to be tho National Government liomiiiec, and- whoever it might be J trust will receive the wholeheartedj unreserved support of thoso supporting tho "win-the-war" Government..- -1 am, etc., ELEOTOIv, WELLINGTON NORTH.
