SECOND DIVISION
THE 02 MEN,
The Minister of Defence stated to a reporter yesterday that men of the Second Division classified as C2—that is, medically unfit —will not be re-ex-amined, as has been tho case with First Division reservists. Men of the Second Division who have been classified as fit may be re-examined if the DirectorGeneral of Medical Services, or iho Assistant-Director, so advise. In tho case of a fit man who desires to bo re-examined, application must be made to the Director of Recruiting, Wellington, either direct or through the group area officer. Family doctors' certificates, if produced as evidence of unfitness, should be brought in sealed envelopes to the president ,of the Medical Board, and aro not to V)e sent to tho group area officer. Thii is required in order to prevent medical secrets being disclosed. The president of the Medical Board will have the right to postpone .the medical examination in order to consult the local doctor regarding anv particular reservist.
Tho explanation of this announcement probably is that now tho Medical Boards know better what are tho disqualifications for active service, and that therefore it will be thecaso that men classed as C 2 will not in fact bo fit for field service. The , Toason for the TC-examinrition of the original C 2 men was that in tho early stages of the war many men were classed as C 2 by some of tho medical officers who should have been classed B or even A.
