Sergeant-Major Frank Moore, eldest 6on of Mr. I' , . T. Moore, of Johnsonville, has beon granted a commission in the Palestine Army and awarded a Military Crojss. Lieutenant Moore left New Zealand as a trooper with the Main Body,; and has served contiuuously at .Gallipoli, Egypt, and Palestine. He was wounded on two occasions; but made complete recoveries in each instance at Malta Hospital. Tho WeHington Harbour Board decided last evenirg to send a letter of congratulation t(< Major D. J. Gibbs, a forai'jr member of the board's head office staff, who had received the D.S.O. Mr. Gibbs had been twenty-one years in thfj service of the board.
Mr. D. M. Findlay, chairman of- the Third Wellington Military Service Board,, who has been indisposed, will, it is hoped, be well enough to resume his official duties in a day or two. Mrs. Pi. Powell, ) Grant Road, has b°e-i advistd that her youngest son, W. H. Powell, who returned to England after haviu? enlisted again in Fijian reinforcements, and who, since his arrival, has been in Fort .Pitt Hospital, Chatham, for operations and treatment of old wounds, has sufficiently recovered to en' transferred to a V.A.D. convalescent hospital; Mr. Charles Zachariah, district manager of the Publio.' Trust Office at "WellinflMn, has been appointed local Deputy 1 , -! blic .Trustee at Wellington as from January 1. • Mr. A. M. Samuel, of Wellington, leaves on a motor trip through the North Island to-day. A Pi ess Association telegram from Daiifldin states that Mr. D. Carter, Greymouth, has been appointed manager for the Union Steam Ship Company at Fiji, in succession to Mr. Eva; Mr. P. N. Jefferys, branch manager at Ne - v Plymouth, is appointed to Greymouth; and Mr. D. Morrison, submanager at Rarotonga, goes to New Plymouth. Mr. F. W. Grainger, general manager of the South Taranaki Shipping Co., arrived in Wellington last night. Ho is stopping at the Empire Hotel. The Rev. Herbert Watson, M.A., of St. Peter's, Wellington, is spending a short holiday in Masterton. ' Mr. Arthur M. Q. Tart, a son of the late Mr. Quong Tart, who was a big Chinese merchant in Sydney, is at present in Christchurch. He has been on actire service with the Australian Forces, and is now travelling to recuperate his health. Mr. Alfred Patrick Gorman, Second Assistant Land Registrar in the Wellington Land and Deeds Office, died on Monday at his residence, Glen Road, Kelburn, after a long illness. The la to Mr. Gorman was 48 years of age, and bas left a widow. He was well known in Napier and Duuedin, and Auckland, where he had held positions in tho Land and Deeds Office. The funeral, which was private, took place yesterday.
