MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Captain Heiinah and-Mr. : T. W. Ellison, Justices of the Peace, presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Joseph Thomas Christie, an old offender, appeared to answer the following charges: (1) Escaping from Avondale Mental Hospital on December 11; (2) stealing a motor-cycle, value AH 00, the property of T. H. Oatcs, on January 15; (3) at Greytown on January 17 did obtain £5 by a valueless ■ cheque from Albert Owen Casey; (-1) _at Wellington on January 11 did obtain goods to the value of £4 3s. and £1 7s. from Georgo E. Potter, tendering a valueless cheque in payment; (5) at Wellington on January 11 did issue a valueless cheque to H. Savage, for goods valued at £3 55.; and (6) on same date did issue a valueless cheque to J. O. Smith for goods valued at £2 14s. On the application of tho police, accused was remanded for a week. H.'l3. Gray, who was arrested yesterday morning on a charge of issuing a valueless cheque at Newcastle, N.S.W., was -remanded to January 26.
