PORT NICHOLSON CLUB ANNIVERSARY DAY REGATTA The Gjicellant woather conditions obtaining ypsterday contributed greatly to tho success of tlio Port Nicholson Yacht Club's annual rcgavta, which opened at 10 a.m. yesterday and lasted till about 6 p.m. Thoro was u fullsail southerly breeze, but the sea was calm. Consequently, both yachtsmen and spectators spent a very ■ pieasanti day. Not oven a minor miiihap occurred to interrupt the smoo.'h running of tho regalia. All the races vere well oonteswd. and the finish in the firstclaas yacht race was so close ks to cau6e quite a little excitement. Only seconds separated tho first, second and third boats. The centre-board races were most interesting. In these, the Petone boats on tho whole acquitted themselves best, though The Man sailed and won a smart race against them from scratch, in tho under 18ft. class. Besidos the yachting were several minor aquatic events, for which entrants wero hurriedly found at tho last moment; Tho spectators got a great deal of fun out of the greasy polo competitions. Credit for the thoroughly efficient mariner in which the day's programme was carried out is chiefly due to Messrs. Duncan, A. J. Potherick, H. A. Schlaadt, and H. Jordan. Following are the results of the yachting events :-r-.
