MASTERTON NOTES
The chief attractions for Mastertaiians on Anniversary Day were picnics, which were held in various parts of the district under perfect weather conditions. A Yankee tournament was held by tho Masterton Lawn Tennis Club, and a pairs tournament by the Ma-sterton Bowling Club. A sum of £43 15s was collected in dog. taxes, in Masterton last year. At the meeting of the Borough Council on Monday evening it.wai- decided to invite .applications for tho position of dog tax collector. In forwarding a contribution to Uib Borough Council on behalf r.' the Park Fund, Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., says:— "During my frequent »i6its to Masterton I nave always made a point of visiting tho park grounds. They aro, I think, a great asset to the town, and a credit to tho management." There are at present thirty-three patients in the Masterton Hospital, including seven in the isolation ward. Up to the present, sixty houses _in Masterton have been connected with tho new drainage extension system. Notico has been, given by Councillor O'Leary to move at the next meeting of the Masterton Borough Council that briar, blackberry, and gorse be placed on the first schedule of the Noxious Weeds Ant.
