FIGHT WITH GOEBEN AND BRESLAU
AN EARLY MORNING ADVENTURE BRESLAU DRIVEN INTO A MINEFIELD (Iteo. January 23, 1.5 a.m.) Loncion t January 21. Tho Admiralty \ reports:—"The Turoo-Gerraan warships Goeben and Braslau emerged from tho Dardanelles early .on the morning of Sunday, and attacked our forces northward of Imbros, with the result that two of our monitors were sunk. '--Tho enemy went southward of Imbros, where the Bresla.a was forced into a minefield, mined, arc sank." '' Tho Go'ebeit went at full speed for the Dardanelles. Turkish destroyors coming to the assistance of the Brcslan were driven off. The Goeben also struck i mine near the entrance to the Dardanelles, reducing her speed, and causing her to settlo down aft. Finally she beached herself on the west side of Nagara, where she h being continuously bombed by our aircraft. "Wo rescued 173 men from the Breslau.
