STIFF PUNISHMENTS FOR OFFENDERS. London, January 21. Mr. J. R. Clynes, Parliamentary Secretary to tho Food Ministry, in a speech at Manchester, said that the magistrates were too lenient with the profiteers. Tho Food Ministry was about to introduce a Bill providing that offenders, in addition to being liable to fines and imprisonment, should repay double the amount of the excess charged by them over the fixed prices.—Aus.-N.Z.
