POLICE AND MAINTENANCE CASES. Mr. S. E. jM 'Cartliy, S.M., was on the Bunch at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, and dealt with the police cases. Percy Hammond, who was discovered trundling a barrel containing 5 gallons of beer up Moiesworth Street 011 Sunday, January 13. was convicted of theft and sentenced to a month's imprisoiiment. On Saturday night last Thomas O'Brien was busy in Lambton Qui.v begging alms, and in the course of his operations 110 approachcc! Plain-clothes Constable Triclilebank, who promptly arrested him, The constable stated that the man had no means of support and was in tho habit of cadging m the streets. O'Brien was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. Thomas Purcell was charged with being found drunk, also with trespassing on his wife's oremises during the eurrcney of a separation order. He pleaded guilty, and was severely reprimanded by tiie Magistrate for intruding on his wife, who, because of the separation order, was under the protection of tho Court. On the charge of trespassing lie was convicted and discharged, and for being drunk ho was fined 205., with the alternative of serving seven days in gaol.' Thomas Goodwin and Peter Jl'Car-

Ron were charged with using threatening behaviour in Cuba Street. Goodwill slated that M'Carron asked hiui to have a drink, which he refused, and on coming out of the hotel M'Carrci struck hira. The two men were convicted and fined 40s. each, in, default seven days' imprisonment. MAINTENANCE CASES. Robert D.-Pullar was .adjudged the father of an illegitimate child, and was ordered to pay 10s. a week for its support and to pay arrears totalling 114. Robert George Stavelev was ordered to pay ss. a week towards the support of his child, now ill a receiving home. Edward Richard Bailey, who was. in arrears to the amount of- £14, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, no warrant to issue until applied for by the informant.

'Reginald John Downing, whose arrears were £10, was sentenced , to a month's imprisonment provided the amount is not paid forthwith. He was also ordered to pay 7s. ,6d. per week in respect to a child horn since the separation order was granted, and past maintenance for the child, .CG 7s. Cel., and costs.

Herman John Cook was ordered to pay 105., a Tyeek and £3 15s; past maintenance in respect to his child.
