'DESTROYING COCKSFOOT SEED. (Bv Telegraph—Soeoial Correspondent.) Hawera, January 19. At a meeting of the Taranaki executive of the Farmers' Union held at Hawera attention was drawn .to the fact that railway, surfacemen had destroyed by burning a/large quantity of cocksfoot seed that_ was-growing along the railway reservo,ahcl'this, it was urged, was scandalous 'waste. The Government, urged overyone, to be economical theso- times;';'anfcts'"prevent unnecessary waste,"but "they , "deliberately destroyed 'valuable cocksfoot seed before anyone had a clianco of saving it. It was decided that the Railway Department be asked to instruct their •'surfacemen that before burning off cocksfoot grojiring alongside the railway line every effort should be mado to save the eeedi and have it properly harvested"'
