MIRAMAR BOROUGH

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Mayor (Mr. I l '. Townsend) presided at the meeting of the Miramar Borough Council held last evening, and there were also present Conncillois M. J'racy, H. Hawthorne, and H. Pollock. The borough engineer (Mr. Fox) reported that the large electric light motor which had been installed to drive the two air compressors for the sewerage system were giving greater satisfaction than the original motors. The large motor ran with an efficiency of 30 per cent, to 85 per cent., after allowance bad been made for running it at below its rated horse-power, and it was sinfcr to tun it for a longer period than small motors without danger of ovor-henting.

A letter was received from Mr. F. Black, complaining of the meajjre progress that bad been 'made with fhe construction of the sea wall on the Marine Parade. The writer contended that the work should bo carried cut with more expedition, for procrastination would mean additional ultimate expenditure, and a proper protective wall was a niatter of the utmost urgency. Councillors were of opinion that it was desirable to speed up the work, but it was pointed out that the cause of the delay ivas the shortage of labour. It was decided to reply to that effect.
