"CIVVIES" FOR SOLDIERS
Nearly 20,000 civilian suits to ho given to soldiers on their discharge wera recently bought up by tho British War Office from wholesale clothiers in all parts of the country. This will get over a temporary difficulty in_ carrying out tho promise to provide discharged soldiers with better clothes thart those about which complaint was made'. The making ot dark grey cloth for these suits has been begun, but there is a scarcity of labour for the tailoring. Each man who leaves the Army will, as far as possible, be suitably attired to look for employment. Every class is in the Army, but it is hoped to make arrangements to meet the men's various needs. To economise wool it is also proposed to supply labour battalions with uniforms of some other material suitable for their work. Soldiers on agricultural work may have khaki corduroy trousers instead of woollen. Wholesale clothiers have been asked for particulars of stocks of cotton t'ords and molos.
