MSTUHNS OF THE 0118-ISTMAS SEASON. Tho Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward haa furnished the following particulars of tho Post and Telegraph businoss transacted at tho seventeen chief offices in the Dominion on December 20, 21, 22, and 24, 1917:— Tho stamp sales amounted to £21,279, ail increase of 3.69 per cent, over tho sales of the corresponding period of tho previous yoar. The number of bags and hampers of mail matter forwarded from the seventeen offices was 39,673. Of this number 7834 were forwarded from Auckland, 7177 from Wellington,.s9oo-from Clmstchurch, and '1456 from.Dunodin. Telegrams' forwarded numbered 83,412. Of these 13.60Q vnre forwarded trom Auckland, '22,000 from •• Wellington. 10,000 from Christchuvch, and 7000 from Dunedim Telegrams received numbered 10S,i/-2, and' telegram transmits, that is messages received and transmitted onward to other destinations, numbered 155; 741. The total number of telegrams (forwarded, received, and transmits) ileal! with in the four (lavs numbered P 3.027 in Wellington, 65,867 in Auckland, 11,150 in Christclrarch, and 32,530 in DmiocTin. Next in order were Wanganui with 237T05 and Napier with ].8,842, For all; classes of telegraph Business, the increase in 1917 over the four days preceding Christmas Day m 1016 amounted to 5.8 per cent.
