NOTES AND COMMENTS
fBY GHBKCOE.I TBAOK WORK AT TBBKTKAM. There was not much doing at Trent-ham yesterday, but Beveral trainers who arrived overnight had their charges out dome steady work. Amongst the number was the Cup favourite. Nobleman, who looks woll, and his trainer, J. Coylc. is very confident about the ability of the Sir Laddo gelding to run up to his Awapum K ll °f. Mason arrived yesterday with Missouri, lovesick, Indus, Eleus, and Thames. The first-named is on the smull side, but is a good galloper. , R O'Bonnell has Almoner. Koesian, and Oyresian here. The first-named. 80-Peep, and Fininark will have an interesting setto in b'bth the Wellington Stakes and Kelbnrn' Plate. It was freely stated at Trentham yesterday that Hymestra would bo unable to fulfil his engagements at the coming meeting. Advices from Haetinfrs state that T. F. Quinlivan will probably leave fov Sydney in March next, and mill settle there. He is to act as private trainer for Mr. E. J. Watt. The Chokebore colt, Long Range, was shipped south last night, and will not be a runner at the Trentham Meeting. Those who intend being present nt Trentham on Saturday should note that the first event will start at 11.30 a.m. Trains leave Lambton Station for Trentham at 8.30 a.m. and 9.45 a.m. After galloping at Eiccarton on Monday, Subterfuge pulled up lame, and on Tuesday J. M'Combe cancelled tho accommodation booked for her at Trenthantf Ohortlo was out on the tracks yesterday, and though he has a big joint his trainer thinks ho will be able to start in the Wellington Cup. K. Reed turned down the ride on Elocution in tho Telegraph Handicap at Trentham. This probably means that Vagabond will start in the sprint event and not in tho Cup. Twelve months ago Reed won the samo race on Alultiplication: After working at Trentham yeeterday it was noticed that. Piraeus was slightly sore. Tho two-year-old Is engaged in the Suracry Handicap on Saturday. Ayah, runner-up to Shrill in the Trinl Plato at Trentham last year; will again contest the same event on Saturday, and will be ridden by A. Eeed. The same horseman will have the mount on Parisian Diamond in the Telegraph Handicap. Nanna is much fancied for the Telegraph Handicap, which is the concluding event on Saturday's card. At Opaki recently Lady General, a winner at Awapuni, ran five furlongs in lmin. ssec, and the same morning the Martian filly clipped five seconds oft the time over the same distance.
