LOWER HUTT BOROUGH
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The ordinary meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) presided, and there were also present: Councillors J. M'Dougall, W. G. Meldruni, YV. Walton, W. Cotton, A. Hobbs, W. Kerr, J. Brasell. The Town Clerk, Wellington, wroto forwarding a copy of a report of the City Motor Inspector with respect to the overcrowding of motor buses. The report stated that on December 14 one bus left; Wellington very much crowded, many of the passengers riding on the mud-guard. Another bus had 48 passengers, while it was licensed to carry 30. The councillors were of opinion that the overcrowding was between Wellington and Petone. It was decided to call the attention of the proprietor to the matter. It was further decided to approach the other local bodies interested in order to take concerted action in dealing with overcrowding. A letter was received from Mr. R. Stevens calling attention to the neglected condition of the footpath in Laing's Road and asking that it receive attention. It was decided to instruct tho engineer to effort teTiiporary repairs, and it was also decided to inform Mr. Stevens that the council would place a fium on the estimates for the repair of tho road. j

Spilman wrote complaining of the nuisance caused by the bellowing of wandering: stock in the vicinity of his house, and pointing out that owing to the state of his health he had to liavq sleeping draughts, the affect of which was quite counteracted hy this nuisance. Tho council decided to ask tho ranger to do his utmost to abate tho nuisance.
A protest against a licence fee being charged tho Cntholie School was received from tho Rev. Dean Lane, and it was resolved to write to the reverend gentleman that it was reported that friendh- societies held their meetings in the srlioolronin, mid requesting information on the subinct.

This shed is 30ft x flOff.. divided into two omi.il narts. one intended for children, the othor for adults. The cost was '£35 lSs. fid. The shed for tho en stem side is being built south of White's Line.. This shed will he the samp size as t\\p. other, hut with a central division, and an entrance at each end, ono for men and boys, and tho other for -women and girls.
