ESCAPE AND RECAPTURE.

Taumarunul, January, 12. Arthur Johns, a religioua objector, who escaped from tha prison at Rotoaira and was recaptured on Thursday at Raurimu. made a second escape kst evening. When the gaoler was dnnng the prisoner in' the prison trap from ■Waimarrao station he nad to get out to open some gates. Johns saw an opportunity to escape and grabbed the reins and drove for three miles and escap, <rd to the bush. Prisoner was again captured last night, and was brouetit to Taumaraiui to-day tor trial before Justices, when he was sentenced to a further twelve months' imprisonment in Mount Eden Gaol. Prisoner, who was formerly sentenced to two yeais imprisonment, mado a statement in Court that lie was always prepared to do non-combatant work here or in France, but not under military control. He was afraid that under military control he might be called on to cari)V ammunition to kill people, and the UiUle said "Thou shall not kill.
