ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

At ail inquest held at Gore relative to the death of James Dodds from burns by scalding whey in the sugar of milk factory at Edendalo 011 New Year's Eve it ivas stated that deceased had been supervising the boiling of the whey in a 2000 gal. vat. The boiling was done by steam ui> to V2l deg. Fahrenheit. At this neat the steam was turned off. On the night in question Dodds, who had been employed in the factory for only three months, had been told to turn the steam on only tiyo turns, so as not to tako too much from the boiler. The opinion of witnesses was that, going to turn off the steam, deceased bad accidentally turned it full 011, and that the scalding stuff had been blown out over him. Then he seemed to have fallen from the 12ft. platform to tho concrete iloor. The platform was 4ft. wide, and protected by a handrail. Tlifl jury returned a verdict of death from accidental burns, 110 Maine being attachable to anyone.

The Inspector ,of Police at ellington received advice that a labourer named Michael Edmonds, a single man, 60 years of ape, committed suicido b,v hanging himself at Stoney Flat, near Martinborough, yesterday.

Evidence given at the inquest on the boy of Mr. J. B. Sim, a former Mayor of Sydenham, wlio was found dead at Elthaiu in a pool of water wno inches deep, showed that deceased was subject to apoplexy. A vcrdiA was returned that Mr. Sim died from asphyxia by drowning, caused by Van failure, tl ln result of falling; into '-old water. There was no suggestion of suicide.

SUDDEN DEATH IN THE STREET. (Bjy Teleeranh—Soeclal Correspondents Masterton, January 11. A man, named "William Harris, CI years of age, fell dead in the street this afternoon. Ho had been working in tho country, and had been brought to town to see the doctor, who ordered him to the hospital. Tho cause of death is not yet known. Deceased was a native of Wellington, and had been working about the district for years.
