STIRRING ADDRESS BY TROTSKY
RUSSIA NOT A DEFEATED, NATION
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright
(Kec. January 11,11.20 p.m.) Petrograd, January 10.
M. Trotsky, addressing the Central Empires' delegates at Brest Litovsk, announced that the Russian delegates had not come as the representatives of a defeated nation; Thev had no intention whatever of suing for mercy. They remained true to tfie Revolution, and were advocating a free and independent Russia. If the Imperialists refused to meet tho people's wishes, the Central European democracies would put in a weighty word on their behalf and not suffer young Russia, to be wiped off the face of the earth. Failing that, the Russians would fight to the bitter end, not only in the trenchcs, but everywhere, barricading every step of the oppressors.—''The Times."
THE OPPOSITION TO TIIE BOLSHEVIK!
(Rec. January 11, 7.55 p.hi.) ■ Petrograd, Januarv 10. The majority of tho Cossacks are following General Kaledin, who <onsiders that the main business of the Cossacks is to consolidate the Democratic) Republican power in the Don district. General Kaledin considers it undesirable to interfere with tho inner life of other parts of the Russian Republic. Ho is'only roadv to fight the Bolsheviki if tho latter adopt an aggressive policy against tho Don. General Alexieff, Mo is leading an officers' corps 25,000 strong, however, considers it necessary to organise a struggle against the Bolsheviki on an all-Russian scale, and create a Moderate Liberal regime for Russia. Monarchical principles are strong among the Alexieff group. M. Savinkoff, who was Minister of War in tho Kerensky Ministry, supports General Alexieff, considering that strong measures are necessary against the Bolsheviki. General Korniloff, late Commander-in-Chief, is not taking an active part ill the controversy. The Bolsh&vik forces concentrated on the Don border are fraternising with the Cossacks. —Aus.-N.Z Cable Assn.
