THE MOTUIHI ESCAPE
SECOND COURT OF INQUIRY.
The Court of Inquiry to investigate whether any of the blame for the escape of the German prisoners from Motuihi in the middle of December should be attributed to Colonel Pattersou or Major Osburn Lilly has been set up. It will happen a_ great part of the evidence at this inquiry will be the same as that at tne last inquiry, but as the professional reputations of these two officers may be impugned at the inquiry they are entitled to hear all the evidence, and to be present at the proceedings. _ is they were not considered to be primarily concerned when the last inquiry v-as held, they were not in attendance for the whole of the time, but only at those times when they were required by the Court to give evidence. The following officers have been selected to constitute the Court:— Colonel Potter, Camp Commandant at Trentham; Lieutenant-Colonel Fletcher, an officer'of the N.Z.E.F., who has returned from active service; and Major Cooper, an Imperial officer -who ha-s seen service in this war and who has been doing staff duties in Otago.
