AUSTRALIAN LAND SCANDAL
APPLICATION FOR INQUIRY REFUSED. Adelaide, January 9. The State Government has refused the application of Mr. A. W. Styles for a Supreme Court Judge to inquire into the land scandal, and has also decided to ask Mr. Jones', Government Valuator, to resign.—Press Assu.
[Mr. Styles, who has just resigned his position of Minister of Education in the State Government, was Chief Secretary in the Vaughan Ministry, and a Royal Commission has reported that tho evidence points to the conclusion that ho betrayed his trust as a Ministor in connection with purchases of land for soldiers by that Ministry. The Government valuation, the Commission i>lso reported, had wilfully put false values on land.]
