MASTERTON NOTES
Attention has been publicly drawn to the fact that a good deal of distress prevails in Jlastertoii at the present time, and a suggestion has been made that the Dorcas Society, which went out of existence some years ago, be re-formed. A sitting of the Military Service Appeal Board was held in Masterton on Wednesday, when fifty-eight appeals were dealt with. The Masterton County Council has at present a debit balance of £4952. On account of its finances heinp; in a somewhat strained condition, the Mnsterton County Council has decided not to accept tenders for certain metal repairs in the meantime. Tomato plants in Master ton" gardens are reported to be suffering from a blight, which causes the fruit to decay. It was reported at a mcetini of the Masterton County Council on Tuesday that the best quotation obtainable for benzine was 245. 4d. per case, hut tliofc only half ,a ton was procurable, with no certainty as to when more would be forthcoming.
