BELLIGERENTS' MAN-PdWER AMERICAN ARMIES WILL BEDRESS THE BALANCE. :• London, January. 3.' Mr. George N. Barnes presided at a meeting of representatives of the Government and trade unions associated with recruiting and in connection with protected occupations. Sir Auckland Gcddes, Minister of National Service, stated that the War Cabinet bad studied the man-power resources of all the belligerents. The Russian situation had completely altered the position in the last six months, but the American armies would ultimately more than redress the balance. The speed with which they could be put • into the field was almost entirely a question of tonnage. Meanwhile a great strain was thrown on Britain's ie- ' sources. Three pre-requisites to victory were an increase in the output ot shipping, the saving of tonnage, and the maintenance of tlic armies in the field. Hence, a departure from existing arrangements was imperative. Tho meeting was adjourned until next day—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Rcuter.
