Four years ago Island Bay decided that it should have a bowling club. Sites were inspected, but tlio consensus of opinion was that laud values were too high—and a war was on. In Juno of thiß year the Municipal Electors' Association decided that the timo had arrived for the formation of a green both' in the interests of residents and of visitors to Island Bay. Several allotments- were visited, and it was decided to purchase a piece of land on the Slain Parade, the price given being very reasonable. Work was commenced on August 1, by day labour, and the grass was sown on September 1 and playing was commenced just before Christmas. For rapidity of construction—turning an area of woeds into a beautiful sward of grass—this will take some beating. The ground was capably laid out by Mr. W. G. Crawford, of ICarori, who has laid out several greens in and around Wellington, and, in the opinion of some of the old bowlers who liavo trailed after "kitty" for many'a year, tho groen reflects great credit on him, A pavilion is now in course of construction from designs prepared by the honorary architeot to the club, Mr. H. T. Burnos. Tho contract is being carried out by Mr. Pillar, at a cost of £'108. A croquet lawn, for tho benefit of members' wives, adjoins tho green. FLI-ICEELO kills flics. Your boy in the trenches wants a tin. Means death to all vermin. Absolutely harmless to humaa boings. Manufactured and packod l>y Britishers. On 6nle at all Chemists ana .Stores.—Advfc.
