FRANCE'S WAR EFFORTS
HEAVY SUBSCRIPTIONS TO LOAN CALLING UP THE 1918 CLASS (Rec. December 30, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, December 28. The War Loan subscriptions exceed expectations. They amount to £500,000,000, exclusive of foreign contributions. Tho Chamber of Doputies has empowered the Government to requisition the whole mercantile fleet. The Chamber lias decided to call up the .1.918 class. It is stated that Germany lias already called up tho 1920 class, and intends to make a formidable effort. M. Clemenceau, the Premier, said wo wero fighting for victory, and.must respond to actual necessities without awaiting the efforts of the Allies.
