Mr. R. B. Bell, formerly managor of the Ashburton "Guardian," and who has recently returned from the front and received his discharge from tho N ZE F , bas been appointed advertising manager of The Dominion. He will commence his duties immediately.

A Press Association cable message from Sydney announces the death of Mr. John May, member for the Flinders seat in the Queensland Parliament. Mr. May was killed while boarding a train.

Cable advice received states that Second Lieutenant Garth R. Jackson, of Masterton, who was wounded in Palestine, is progressing favourably, and has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

On Thursday last a solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated at the Makara Church by tho Rev. Father Dignan. for the repose of the soul of Private Louis W. Sievers, who was killed in action in Franco on November 30. Ho was the son of Mr and Mrs. Sievers, of Makara, and grandson of the late Mr. William Sievers, of Makara. The deceased soldier was bom at Makara and was the third man from that district to mnko the supreme sacrifice for his country. Sergeant J. J. Moriarty, of the Australian forces, who was recently wounded, and who returned to the firing hue, has been awarded tho Military Medal for distinguished service on the battlefield. Sergeant Moriarty is an old Ashburton boy.

A Christchurch Press Association telegram states that Private G. C. L. Wilson, well known in Canterbury, and a New Zealand representative cricketer, has been killed in action.

Mrs. Cousins, of 292 Tinakori Road, received cable advice on Saturday that her husband, Lieutenant E. C. Cousins, has been wounded. Lieutenant Cousins was firstly a member of the Main Body and returned to New Zealand invalided. He left again with the Twenty-fifth Reinforcement; The last news received from him stated that he expected to be going to France after Christmas. Mrs. Cousins's two brothers, M. S. and 1). J. Snow, are atpresent at the front.
