ANNUAL MEETING TO-DAY.

For the annual meeting of the New Zealand Women Teachers' Association to-day tlio following remits have lieea sent in for consideration: —

, "That no single class should contain moro than forty pupils -under one teacher, and not moro than sixty if assisted by a full-time- pupil teacher; at tlio same- time erophasisingtho fact that tlio pupil-teacher system is unsatisfactory."—(flawko's Bay.) "That women inspectors should be appointed."—(Hawke's Bay.) "That in the interests of education, it is desirablo, that .the entire management and organisation of the infant department in our primary schools should bo in the hands of the assistant teachers in charge of those departments, the experience of these women specially qualifying them for that work." —(Auckland.) "That a more satisfactory basis of staffing the infant department bo introduced."—(Auckland.) _ "That in crowded districts there should bo independent junior schools staffed by women." —(Auckland.) "That it is urgently necessary, in the interests of teachers and of education generally, that a Dominion scheme of sick pay bs introduced." —(Canterbury.) "That the Now Zealand Teachers' Association urge the . appointment of women inspectors of schools."—Canterbury.) "That in tfio interests of education better provision should bo made for the teaching of children of retarded mental development."—(Canterbury.) Principles proposed for discussion include:—Limitation of size of classes to 40; improvement of school environment; kindergartens to form part of the national system of education; appointment of women inspectors; women to have a definite status in the upper department of all schools; women to be on all bodies dealing with education ; elevation of domestic arts and 1 sciences. , The nominations for officers for the ensuing year are as follow:—President, Miss Chaplin, B.A. (Canterbury); Miss Coad, M.A. (Wellington); vice-presi-dents Miss P.
