MASTERTON NOTES
A fire occurred in th« workroom of Mr. T. M'Cracken, upholsterer, at an early hour on Friday morning. T.hu Firo Brigade was speedily on tie spot, and the damage done was not material. A solo competition was hold by the Masterton Municipal Silver Band ou Thursday evening. The sonior competition was won by Mr. J. Stalker (bass), and the junior by Mr. H. Johnson (cornet). Mr. H. Taylor acted as judge. Donations are coining in freely for the Masterton surprise packet crusade. In tile course of an address at the Reliable Poultry Farm on Thursday, Mr. 0. Brown. Government poultry expert, statod tnat, in spite of the high cost of feed, the poultry industry was holding its own better jhan bad boen expected. But for the importation of feed from Australia, poultry-keepovs would have been in a very bad fix. They were not out of the mire yoD. The speaker stated that last j°ar the dominion had imported 1,500.000 dozen eggs. This was absolutely a disgraco to a country which lent itself admirably to poultry production. Mr. Brown was accorded a nearly vote of thanks for his able and instructive addiess. The Masterton Park Bowling Cmb suffered defeat at the Lands of the Greytown Olub on Thursday by 70 points to 45.. Seven pupils of the Masterton Technical School recently underwent a theory examination in Gregg's shovthaud. The results have just cwne to hand, and show that the A'h'jlo of the seven have passed. The Wairarapa Amatoir Aihleiio Club held an evening ran on Thursday. The 100 yards handicap wstt won by Devonport, 880 yds handicito h\ P. Kilmmster, and one and a balf-milo cycle handicap by R. Oakley. A man was fined 10s. in oha Magistrate's Court at Masterton on Thursday for being on licensed preuiMts during prohibited hours at Whakataki.
