A CHRISTMAS ORDER. His Excellency the Governor-General (tlio Earl of Liverpool) haa recoived from His Majesty tho King i.he following message to the troops of tho Navy anl Army:— I send to all ranks of the Navy ami Army my hearty good wiehes for Christmas and New Year. I realise your hardships, patiently and cheerfully borne, and repoice in tho success you have won so nobly. Tho nation stands faithful to its pledges, resolute to fulfil them. His Excellency has also received the following telegram from Field-Marshal Sir Douglas Hnig, General Officer ■Ccmma'nding-in-Chief the British 'Forces on tho Western front:— All ranks under my command join with mq in sending you Heartiest good wishes to the Dominion of New Zealand for Christmas and the coming year. (Signed)' DOUGLAS HAIG. The reply sent by His Excellency reads as follows:— "On behalf of this Dominion 1 desire heartily to reciprocate your good wishes, and at the same time to assure you that not only our troops, but those of the whole Empire are *ver present in the thoughts of the people of New Zealand.—(Signed) LIVERPOOL."
