UNFOUNDED ALLEGATION
METHODS'OF MEDICAL BOARDS, j i Tho Minister of Defence (Sir James Allen) stated yesterday that nis attention had been drawn 'to a suggestion made : at a meeting of the "Protestant Political Association that military medical boards had given' exemption to nieii on account of their religion. It. wae scarcely necessary for him tc say thar such a statement was .entirely without foundation..' The inedical boards, stated Ihe Minister, were composed of . men of - high standing 'in. their 'profession, .and ho lin'd every reason to believe- that- they did their work impartially ;,nd. conscientiously. • The system of K'.edical examination had been ..devised, so as to prevent even unconscious bias.. The recruits camo before the- doctors stripped, and their- names were .known 0n1..' to the military officers, who. took no part in the examination, but merely recorded the decision of the doctors. No medical officer worked in his own district, so that tiiero was little likelihood of his knowing the recruits personally.
