NEW REGULATIONS MADS

MILITARY HONOURS FOR VETERANS Amended regulations for military funerals havo been announced. They provide that military honours may be accorded to (a) Veterans of former wars who, at the time of their death, were in possession ol' British war medals; (b) Ex-members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force who hnve returned from active service beyond the seas; (c) Serving members of the New Zealand Permanent Forces; (d) Serving members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force (foreign sorvice section and home service section); r . (e) Serving members of the New Zealand Territorial Forco. Military honours will be given only whore a firing party is conveniently available, within ten miles of the cemetery in which the deceased is to be buried. In such casoe where tho Officer commanding the district considers the cemetery boyond marching distance, convoyaiico for the firing party and band will bo provided by the Defence Department. The limitation of ten miles may be extended to twenty miles by the Officer Commanding tho District, in cases where firing parties or bands are obtained from military camps. Tho gun. carriage and other appliances mil" "be supplied when practicable. Except in the ease of soldiers on indefinite leave without pay, or leave without pny in lien of discharge, funerals will lie provided' by the Defence Department for all attested members of tho Expeditionary Force (foreign-ser-vice section or home service section), on application of wxt-of-kin, or instructions by the adjutant-Sonera]. Funerals will bo provided on application by next-of-lcin, or on instructions by t.he adjutnnt-ftpnoral. for members of the New Zealand Fjxnoditionarv Force who die while on indefinite leave without pay. or loavn without pay in lieu of discharge, if their dooths nre due to disabilities rnntractfd in the service, or aggravated in the service so as to wise eiich donths, provided such deaths occur within six months of such leave boino; granted.
