RECORD PRICE FOR COW AND CALF
A new record was made bj t! c salo at Easton (England), in October, of tho imported heifer Joukje to Mrs. Putnam at 1650 guineas, the previous best price for a female at public auction being 820 guineas, paid by Major Spence for Dell Eeke at Mr. Munro's salo at Inverness in August. Then another record was established by the sale of the little calf from Joultjo at 1050 guineas, tho next best v.'ice for a calf being 1000 guineas, paid by Mr. Cr. A. Francis for his future Herd bull Dell Hollander, also at Mr. Munro's sale.' Joukje hersolf made -within 50 guineas of the record price for the breed, 1700 guineas, given by Messrs. A. and J. Brown for Botermijn, at Mr. John Bromet's sale in July, when tho record average was set up of -C 236 Us. sd;, as compared with £195 2s. 3d. at the Duchess of Hamilton's sale. Her fivo bulls now averaged £266 lis., and the seventy-four cows and heifers £190 os. 6d. apiece.
