GALLANT DEFENCE BY THE ESCORTS ] London, December 18. Tho "Morning Post's" Copenhagen correspondent reports:—Survivors of the Maracaibo; which was bound for a Danish port with coal, state that tho British destroyers and trawlers made a gallant resistance, and were only beaten oti tli'o arrival of enemy reinforcements. Tho defence of the warships enabled tho merchantmen to get out of range of tho enemy's gunfire and to make preparations for saving the crews. Tho battlo was fought in a fog.
