THE SPIRIT OF OUR SOLDIERS
g; rj —x enclose an extract from a letter received a few days ago. from'a member of tho Now Zealand Field Artillery serving in Franco. Hβ is a farmer, and onlisted in the Auckland district, and went away with one of the early reinforcements. He has a good word to say for tho Trcntham Camp, but it is more in connection with his expressed desire to get back to the fir-ing-lino that I would like . publicity given to his words. They evidently represent the feelings of many more of our men who, like my correspondent, have been in hospital,' and are again fit to get into harness. With such a spirit as he shows existing in tho ranks' oT our forces it is not surprising that our men acquit themselves so valiantly on the field of battle.—l am, etc., M. J. KILGOUR. December 17. [Extract.] "I am now awaiting orders for tho next draft to France, having bmn classed as fit once more. Wo do not know when it will go, but I shall not be sorry to get back into harness again. Camp life does not appeal to us after being in the firing-line."
