WAIUKU BRANCH RAILWAY

FIRST SECTION OPENED,

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, December 16. The Prime Minister on Thursday opened'the first section of tho Waiuku branch railway from Paerata, to Patumnhoe, a distance of 5i miles. The preliminary survey was made-hi 1884, the first appropriation made in 1913, and the first sod turned in 1914. Mr. Massey and tho Hon. W. Eraser referred to the productivity of the district, and stated that war conditions had delayed construction. Both promised early completion as soon as material is obtainable.
